We couldn’t have asked for better weather for Telemundo’s Cinco de Mayo event on Saturday and we would like to send a huge thanks to Noemi, Carmen, Vanessa and Eddie with Telemundo – they were great to work with, as always! It was a little windy at times but the tent survived, and once it hit late afternoon, the breeze was a welcome relief from the sun.

One of the first entertainment groups to hit the stage on Saturday morning was a young dance group, and a few of the dancers came over to do photos afterwards (LOVE the colorful blouses and skirts):

Telemundo had some of their on-air personalities at the booth throughout the day to sign autographs and do photos with attendees. Gaby Natale was with us from noon to 3PM:

Later in the afternoon, we were joined by Jessica Carrillo, Norma Garcia, Nancy Leal and Ramon Diaz. Everytime they were in the booth, we had a line-up of people waiting to have their photo taken with the four. They were all very gracious and were happy to sign the photos after we printed them. All in all, I think everyone had a great time!

Monday night was a typical night at the “office” for me.  I spent the evening at the MDA Muscle Team Bash Fundraiser at the Omni Mandalay with Cowboys Fantasy Photo and we photographed J.J. Barea, Dallas Mavericks Point Guard and MTB Captain. I also met Tony Dorsett, Ed “To Tall” Jones, Drew Pearson, Rayfield Wright, etc, etc, etc.  As always, I had a GREAT time.  This is J.J. Barea “flipping the coin” in one of our Cowboys Fantasy Photo backgrounds.

We are very excited and honored to announce that Bill’s image titled “Match Light” won Best of Show at the 2010 AAPI Convention and trade show in Las Vegas last week! Aside from Bill’s Best of Show image, we had 4 other images take first place in their category.

“Match Light” ~ Best of Show; 1st place, Portrait Non-Digitally Enhanced

“Erin” ~ 1st place, Boudoir Portrait

“Officer and His Lady” ~ 1st place, Civil War Era Portrait

Having grown up (mostly) in Dallas, I have always been a Dallas Cowboys fan.  The Dallas Cowboys are one of the most recognized sports teams in the country, and whether you are a fan or not, you have undoubtedly heard of them. Tanya, who grew up in Canada, even knew about the Dallas Cowboys as a child – she claims it was the only American sports team she was aware of before Edmonton got their little hockey team (the Edmonton Oilers :).

I met with the Cowboys a few weeks ago because they wanted to talk to us about doing a photo op at the new stadium. I have worked with their marketing department for over a year on their promo photo system, so I am very familiar with what they want to provide for their fans.  Today was the big day – I headed out to the stadium to meet with them to set up our new location at the Cowboys Stadium!  We will be at the pro shop at the stadium on Friday and Saturday, and a yet-to-be-determined location on Sunday to do green screen photos of fans and they will have their choice of backgrounds (great deal, too – only $15 each!)  Hope to see you there!

Tanya and I are big believers in charitable giving and we frequently look for new ways to give back to our community. One of our grooms this year, Bob, was telling us about a project he and his staff at Elbit Systems were working on called Snowball Express and it got us excited. Snowball Express was founded in 2006 to “Provide hope and new memories for the children of our fallen military heroes who died while on active duty since September 11, 2001”.

For the past few years their annual event has been held in Anaheim, CA but this year it will be in Dallas.  Elbit Systems is one of the sponsors for the event and Bob mentioned their idea of doing photography this year, so Tanya asked if we could help with some consulting.  We met with their organizers several weeks ago and found out they plan to have roving photographers but they also wanted to do a pirate-themed photo-op.  Well, everyone knows that costumed photography is one of mine and Tanya’s specialities so we said “sign us up”! A huge thanks goes out to Shinko, who has donated the 8×10 dye-sub media we will be printing on at the event. We would also like to thank all of our fellow studio owners across the country who have offered to send us their stash of pirate costumes to use at the event – we will post a list of everyone who contributed in a few weeks.

This year’s Snowball Express event will be taking place at the Dallas Convention Center on December 11 – it is not open to the public but people can still show their support by checking out the Snowball Express website.  Here’s a peak at the t-shirts we will be wearing:

As I scheduled a lunch appointment for Monday, I realized that Monday is also Canadian Thanksgiving.  That means that Halloween is just around the corner, then Veterans Day (in the US)/Remembrance Day (in Canada),  American Thanksgiving and Christmas – I still can’t believe it is October! I don’t know where this year has gone. I had such big plans to revamp our websites and hire someone to do some of our post-processing, but of course none of that has happened.  Not that I’m complaining – I am extremely grateful that we have been so busy this year and we are thankful to all of our wonderful clients!

This is also the start of the season for giving and we always like to do a few charitable events during the holiday season. This year we have decided to donate our services to a national non-profit organization for their multi-day event in December.  We are super excited about it and can’t wait to have a few more details to share with everyone.

Before we get to December, however,  we have all the fall weddings (very popular here in Texas) and a lot of corporate events. We started off the Fall of 2009 with a few weddings and events, a bunch of engagement sessions and bridal sessions and our first ever maternity session.  Last weekend we did a fun event at Big League Dreams for XTO Energy employees and their families and it included batting coaches (we printed baseball cards, of course) and elephants! All in the rain!!!  I love working for myself, but a small part of me is always intrigued when we do these amazing corporate parties and we see how well some companies treat their employees.

Below are a few photos from our event last Saturday (sorry, no model releases so just a few pics of people working the event).  Thanks to Howard, Patty, Ashley & Linda for stepping up last minute to help us out!

We were lucky enough to work with the fantastic crew at Telemundo 39 again this week at the Futbol Fiesta for the big double-header soccer game at the Cotton Bowl.  We had a blast and would like to send a special thank you out to Carmen, Noemi and Vanessa – you were great as always!  This time we had 3 different backgrounds to work with – the weather (which you have probably seen before), a Telemundo Sportscaster and a soccer player. All three were pretty popular, but I think the soccer goalie came out as the favorite (no surprise there).
