We would like to thank everyone who came out this Sunday to see us at the Star-Telegram Bridal Show at the Ft Worth Convention Center.  It is always fun to chat with so many excited new brides (and grooms)!  Our booth was pretty packed most of the day, so if you stopped by but didn’t have a chance to talk to us, please drop us an email and we will arrange a time to get together!  Our show specials will be available until the end of February so you still have time to get in on the deals.

A HUGE thanks goes out to our friends Dan & John who helped me out this weekend.  Bill was in San Antonio for the annual Professional Photographers of America Convention, so Dan & John were kind enough to help me set up on Saturday.  Dan also worked the booth with me all day on Sunday, and to top things off Dan drove my loaded car home while John took me to the airport to meet up with Bill at ImagingUSA.  Thank you soooo much, I couldn’t have done it without you guys!

Finally, we would like to say Congratulations to Stefanie who is getting married in September – she has won a FREE engagement session!

Hope to see you there!

Tuesday ~ Day 2.  We started the day by working a little more on the images from Monday and I was able to pull up some images I had taken in France. This is a castle we visited that we took a scary ride up to visit.  I was able to pull up more detail and show  the clouds more that I was expecting.  Great techniques.

We used my image from Whitney’s Bridal session last fall as one of the sample images the class worked on.  We darkened the sky and brought out more detail in the dress and bridge then we originally had. This image made an appearance on our blog last December but I wanted to show off a great use of my new tools and knowledge 🙂

I also re-worked this landscape from our trip to Wyoming last year – still one of my favorite images from that trip!

Tuesday night was great. Scott Robert, a wedding photographer, had some great new ideas for lighting at weddings at his seminar.  It is similar to what Tanya and I do right now so it will just add to what we are doing.

Wednesday – Day 3
We meet early and went to Old Town in San Diego to take photos.  I found a blacksmith shop and I was able to photograph a couple of the smiths.  We next went to Balboa Park and photographed there.

After we came back we worked on images again.  I worked on my blacksmith photo, so I know have a new black and white version that I love.  I also did a self portrait that I am very happy with.

Most of you know that I have two jobs – the company that Tanya & I own, Albertex Photography, and imageTech Marketing where I am director of technical operations. That is a fancy way of saying that I sell and provide tech support to other Event Photographers.  So in between weddings, I am spending the week in San Diego for the West Coast School of Photography. Not only is imageTech one of the sponsors, but I also taking one of the classes.  This year I am taking a class titled The Fine Art of Photography with Michael & Tina Timmons of Gallery 143 in Michigan.

Yesterday was Day 1 and we saw several tutorials on the sort of work they produce for their clients.  Both Michael & Tina are Master Photographers, Craftsmen – the highest ranking in the PPA. In the afternoon, we had an hour to shoot photos around the USD campus then we headed back to class to work on our images and see what we could come up with. I am used to being the person who is teaching the class on Photoshop, so this is turning out to be an interesting experience and it is definitely opening my mind to new stuff.  Here are the 3 of the images I shot and worked on yesterday.   First is the Immaculate Catholic Church build in 1956 as seen through an arc:

And finally, I saw a bee fly into a rose so I sat and waited patiently until it flew away:

I am a photojournalist at heart.  It has always been one of my favorite types of photography.  I did it for 2 years in high school and 2 years in college on newspaper and yearbook staff.  I have had a photo of school bus accident printed in the Dallas Morning News.  It was my experience of capturing the event as a photojournalist that I used at my first wedding I photographed 27 years ago.  Recently the big thing has been photojournalistic weddings but I never knew there was any other way to photograph a wedding.

I was doing the photos for the background of the Universal Sports green screen event we did on Saturday when they asked me to send some of the photos for their website.  I was pretty excited… then when I was able to shoot the men’s and women’s finals I was REALLY excited.  I have photographed almost every sport but this was my first time to photograph gymnastics so I enjoyed the challenge.  Enjoy the photos.

We had the pleasure of meeting Whitney earlier this year when she was referred to us by a mutual friend.  Whitney is a dental hygienist and part-time student by day, but in her spare time she models and competes in pageants.  Needless to say, we were very excited to find out that she was 3rd runner up in the recent Miss Dallas pageant and she was also one of 3 pageant contestants nominated for Most Photogenic – Congratulations Whitney! First is the photo she entered that got her the nomination for Most Photogenic:

Two more that Whitney considered but didn’t make the final cut

Whitney recently applied for the Miss Texas USA pageant so we did another set of headshots, this time a little more dramatic.  Best of luck!  Here’s the photo she entered and then two more that we loved:
