Thank you to everyone who came by on Sunday to tour the Las Colinas Country Club, it was great to see so many people come out!  In case you weren’t able to make it, the country club has a fantastic special right now for 2014 weddings – if you are still looking for a reception venue you should definitely check it out.

We would also like to congratulate the winner of our door prize – Katie who is getting married in June is eligible for a FREE photobooth!

This post is a little delayed, but as we always say – better late than never! The 2014 Antique and Amusement Photography Association Convention was held in Texas this year at the beautiful Tremont House in Galveston. This year we entered 8 photos and received 7 ribbons including an award for technical excellence. Our steampunk photo of Dianna won the technical excellence ribbon.

Last year during our consult with Bri about her wedding she mentioned the engagement photo they wanted to do for their save the dates. Her fiancée Jonathon was in the Navy and they wanted to recreate the famous Alfred Eisenstaedt photo of the sailor kissing the nurse on VE day. We were happy to oblige since we knew the photo so well. Here is our homage to it. It won the 1st blue ribbon for Best Portrait of Two Persons.

We love pinup. Here is our vintage 1950s garage calendar of Hannah that won 1st place in the Best Digital Border Poster. My Grandfather Marvin Sr. owned a Gulf gas station in the 50’s. June 1958 does correspond to June 2014.

We also love steampunk. We had three award winning steampunk photos this year. Here in Jennifer in our 1st place image in the Best Chromakey Portrait category. This is all TEPS chromakey software and has no Photoshop used in it. The light bulb was actually hanging from the hair light and is not part of the background photo.

Our final 1st place ribbon was for mine and Tanya’s 2013 Christmas card for Best Holiday Greeting Card category. This year we decided on a 50’s couple theme. Tanya showed me in the second photo that was on the back of the card what she thought of serving me pie.

We met Matt and Terri at the 2013 Las Colinas Bridal Show and then we saw them a week later at the Star Telegram Bridal Show. They had met at a college at Texas A&M at a Muldoon’s Coffee House where Terri was working. Matt had proposed at The Texas Renaissance Festival so we immediately bonded and they were thrilled with the British Six Pence coin we had for them.

Matt got a job in California so the wedding was not until Pi Day 3-14-14 in College Station at the 7F Lodge. It’s rustic setting was perfect for the kind of Scottish Highland-esque wedding they were planning, and the weather was perfect for kilts. Matt and the guys wore the Pride of Scotland tartan. The ceremony was beautiful, the bride was glowing (and she didn’t fall off of her shoes as she feared might happen) and there were plenty of kilts in the crowd. At the end of the ceremony the best man Jonathan gave Terri a tap on the bum with a Claymore sword.

Dinner was Shepard’s Pie (what else would you have a Highland Wedding) followed by wedding cake and pies for pie day. Dancing and the photobooth complete with renaissance props finished the evening and the couple retired to the French Chateau at the lodge.

For all of the UT Austin fans out there we had the opportunity to photograph a fundraiser for the Silver Spurs with BEVO on Friday and Saturday in Austin.  This past weekend was Commencement Weekend for UT Austin so there were plenty of new graduates and alumni around.  We were set up early on the field of the Darrell K Royal Stadium and BEVO made his appearance promptly at 10AM. To go along with commencement weekend, we were set up right across the street from the Bass Concert Hall on campus so a lot of families were able to just walk across the street to do their photo with BEVO.

On Friday, Bill’s friend Dee Dee (he has knows her since high school) can by with her daughter Ashley who was graduation that day.  Dee Dee and her husband Greg are both UT Alums and Ashley was the student speaker at the College of Communications Commencement ceremony so we are excited to show off her photo here!

One thing we definitely learned, when at 2000lb steer decides he is tired of standing and takes a seat on the field with his butt to everyone, it is easier to move us, our equipment and everyone else than to try and move him.  BEVO was amazingly docile and patient with all the people who came out to see him and have their photo taken so we thought he deserved his own close-up.

@Albertex Photography

For those of you who aren’t familiar with UT Austin, the Silver Spurs and BEVO, this was a VERY big deal.  Not only were people allowed on the football field, BEVO only makes 3 to 4 appearances a year on campus (other than football games) and people are rarely able to see him up close.

On to our little foodie addiction. As most people know, Austin is an amazing city for food.  After we packed things up on Friday we went to lunch at Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill – it was recommended by several people and didn’t disappoint.  We tried their chicken fried steak as well as the chicken and waffles and both were delicious, but the best part was the pail of seasoned popcorn they bring to the table instead of bread or chips & salsa.  I could make of meal of that popcorn alone – yum! For dinner that night we went to Paul Qui’s East Side King (if you watch Top Chef you might remember him as the winner of Season 9).  We had the pork belly bun, the kinchi pirk ramen and the most amazing brussels sprouts salad EVER. Yes, we are posting a photo of food.  We figure we see enough under-exposed out-of-focus cell phone shots of everyone else’s dinner, we can post one well done photo of our dinner :).

Wedding booking season is officially in full swing and we would like to thank everyone who cam by our booth at last weekend’s Star Telegram Bridal Show.  We had a great turnout and we loved meeting so many newly engaged couples!  I know we were pretty busy most of the day and didn’t have a chance to talk to everyone so if you wanted to chat we would love to hear from you!

Just a reminder that our show special was on our Photo Booth – it is normally $750 when you add it on to any wedding package but with our show special it is only an extra $250 (price valid for weddings booked by February 28 2014).  We are always happy to schedule a complimentary consultation so if you would like to get together give us a call or drop us an email and we’ll set it up!

We would also like to congratulate the winner of our door prize – Alessandra who is getting married in July has won a free engagement session!

Thank you to everyone who came out last weekend to see us at the Las Colinas Bridal Show – we loved meeting so many excited new brides (and a few grooms).  We would like to congratulate Erica who is getting married in August – she won the free engagement session we were giving away!

We also had a bridal show special that we tried to tell everyone about, but in case we missed anyone out show special was on our photobooth.  The photobooth is normally $750 when added on to any of our wedding packages but with our show special it would only be an additional $250 as an add-on.  Show special is available until February 28 2014.

If you would like to talk a little more about your big day, or didn’t have a chance to talk to us at all, we would love to hear from you – feel free to call or email us anytime!
