“Photographers should spend more a year on education than they do on equipment.” – Roberto Venezuela

We agree with Roberto. Between photo conventions, photo society meetings, a slew of magazines and the internet we feel we do just that. A couple of weeks ago Tanya and I were in Galveston for the Dallas Professional Photographers Association annual Little Red Schoolhouse. This year’s theme was Great Gatsby. Anyone that knows us, knows vintage photos is how we met and we really enjoy doing them. We got a chance to do some shoots while there.

Roberto and Cris Duncan gave us some great nuggets of information we can’t wait to use at our next weddings.  Thanks to Sigma for loaning me their 8-16mm Super Wide Angle lens for the Infrared photo shot on our IR converted Nikon D70.  This was shot at 8mm.  Love the way the trees frame the Hotel Galvez.  Sigma was the big sponsor at LRSH and had lenses there to use in photos.

“It is more important to click with people than to click the shutter” – Alfred Eisenstaedt

These simple words have been our mantra from for a long time, and the concept was brought home the first time we met with Bri and her parents.  Bri has a theatrical background and Jonathan is in the Navy and they met in an acting class, so when Jonathan proposed they decided the wanted to recreate Eisenstaedt’s famous photo V-J Day in Times Square. Needless to say, we were over the top excited to make it happen for them since we have always been huge fans of his work.  On a side note, Bill actually got to meet Eisenstaedt in Dallas during his book tour for his book Witness to Our Time.

We decided that 2 engagement sessions were in order – the first at Fair Park with Jonathan in his Petty Officer uniform and Bri in the vintage 1940s nursing outfit. The end result recently won first place in a photo competition and we created this fantastic Save the Date for them.  We parted ways and met up again later that day to do their “regular” engagement session which was just as stunning as their morning session.
