Tanya and I met at the Antique and Amusement Photography Convention many years ago, and 10 years ago I proposed to her in Mesquite, NV on the last night of the convention. This year we entered 7 photos in the photo contest and received 6 ribbons, including an award for technical excellence! Here is our photo of the beautiful Flossie Carmichael from a series of images we did for the February 2013 cover of Sugar Heart Magazine (it also won an honorable mention in the Boudoir category):
Next was our 1st place image in the Chromakey category. The main photo was shot on a green screen and the background photo is the Scat Club in downtown Fort Worth. The composite photo was created with a specialty event software we use that automatically knocks out the green screen – there is no Photoshop used here.
For Best Portrait in Any Other Era, our photo of Tiffany took 2nd place. Tiffany is a local pin-up model who we did some portfolio work for and her plans include moving to England so we thought the luggage would be a perfect addition to her look.
Next up is Erin, whose vintage 1950s Diner calendar won 2nd place in the Best Digital Border Poster.
Finally, as our family and friends all know, Tanya and I try to get creative with our Christmas card every year. for 2012, we were inspired by our growing Pin-up business so we decided to do a card that was our version of a cross between a Hummel figurine and a Norman Rockwell painting. Our card won 2nd place this year, but what means the most to us is how many people sent us notes to comment on how much they loved our card this year!
This past weekend kept us hopping – between Leah & Michael’s beautiful wedding at Robert Carr Chapel and the Stonegate Mansion, and Sunday’s Star Telegram Bridal Show at the Will Roger’s center, we barely had time to sleep! We are happy to say that everything was absolutely fabulous for Leah & Michael’s special day and we had a great time at Sunday’s Bridal Show. We always enjoy meeting so many newly engaged couples – their excitement is almost contagious!
If you came by and didn’t have a chance to talk to us or just want to spend a little more one-on-one time with us, please call or email and we will set something up! We would like to thank our fabulous past bride, Kerry, who came out to help us on Sunday and we also want to congratulate Amanda who is getting married in March 2014 – she is our grand prize winner of a free engagement or boudoir session! We also had a Show Special on our photobooth – it is available at a discounted price when it is added on to any of our wedding photography packages – call or email for details.
A Canadian marrying a Texan… you know we would be totally on board with that (especially since this bride was born in Poland, one of our all-time favorite countries to visit). We were lucky enough to meet Beata and David through one of our other 2012 couples, Caroline & Taylor, which always makes for an extra fun wedding day for us.
Beata & David were married at the always stunning Marty Leonard Chapel. Beata’s sister from Ontario was not only Maid of Honor but official hair and makeup toucher-upper and while the girls finished getting ready, David took a quick run back to his house to retrieve the rings (oops). Fortunately, the rest of the day ran smoothly and couldn’t have been more perfect. David, being the tech-guru that he is, even set up a live feed for Beata’s family in Poland to watch.
As soon as we wrapped up photos at the chapel we headed to the wonderfully historic YWCA in downtown Fort Worth. Their unique and personal decor consisted a collection of long lost family photos, antique books and vases and some amazing florals. Having shot a wedding in Poland the previous year, we were familiar with a few of their wedding traditions but this was a new one – David drinking a shot of vodka out of Beata’s shoe.
After a delicious Lebanese meal (YUM!!!), the dancing began.

Yes, you read that correctly – Superheroes and Zombies. An odd combination, especially for a wedding, but it was a perfect one for Ellyn and Thomas. Their wedding at Southside Church of Christ in Ft Worth was one of our most fun weddings in 2012. Ellyn and her “Maids” had the perfect wedding morning – everyone was relaxed, had fun, and we had plenty of time for photos and acting silly.
Ellyn trained as a ballet dancer for many years and it shows in her graceful elegance – LOVE these bridals at Thistle Hill Mansion.
Now on to Thomas and his Men. Thomas’s brother, Dylan (best man), his dad and the Groomsmen wore superhero shirts under their tux shirts so we couldn’t resist getting a photo showing them off. As you will find out, Thomas’s father had multiple roles for their wedding – not only was he the father of the groom, he was also the officiate and the DJ! Thomas’s superhero of choice is pretty obvious – Batman!
As for the Zombie part of the day, Thomas’s father, Terry, is a big zombie fan and he made sure that zombies played a role in the ceremony. Terry placed a zombie, usually reserved for coming out of the ground for Halloween, under the first pew and we all waited anxiously for Thomas and Ellyn to spot them during the ceremony.
At the reception, Thomas & Ellyn had an amazing Cupcake Bar by Sweets… by Sonnie. There were 7 different flavors of cupcakes and 6 different icings and guests could choose their own custom combination. Our faves were the strawberry cupcake with strawberry icing (Tanya’s fave) and cinnamon with cream cheese icing (Bill’s fave). YUM!! To finish off the cupcake bar they had buckets of regular or chocolate milk to wash down the tasty treats. Thomas’s cousin ran a temporary tattoo station and the photobooth was a huge hit!
Their perfect day ended with a colorful balloon release and off went Thomas & Ellyn, happy married!
