Tanya and I have shot old time costume photos for 30 years.  Steampunk made sense to us since we already had costumes, we just needed the right props.  Combining our greenscreen experience and costume knowledge we have been able to do some very fun Steampunk events and also with our photobooth that we can set up as Steampunk.

In March we had our photobooth at Alisha & Dean’s Clockwork Carnival Cabaret Wedding in Azle. We were in our own 10×20 section of a very large tent. It was a lot of fun and the party went late into the evening. So many people were dressed up in Steampunk and A Clockwork Orange outfits, it made the photos look great. Thanks to the groom’s brother and sister in law Andy and Cassandra for their great set of photos.

We have also been at some of the DFW areas larger Steampunk events and look forward to this years Steampunk November in Venus.

Most people have heard of or seen Irish Dancing whether it was from Riverdance or Lord of the Dance. An Irish Dance Festival is frequently known as a Feis. We have been able to photograph for the last 2 years the Texas State Championship and Feis hosted by the McTeggart Irish Dancers of North Texas at the Sheraton Grand DFW. This year we had some amazing dancers to photograph in their amazing outfits. Some Irish Dance outfits can cost as much as $3000. Here are a few dancers we photographed this year and we look forward to the next one.

“Photographers should spend more a year on education than they do on equipment.” – Roberto Venezuela

We agree with Roberto. Between photo conventions, photo society meetings, a slew of magazines and the internet we feel we do just that. A couple of weeks ago Tanya and I were in Galveston for the Dallas Professional Photographers Association annual Little Red Schoolhouse. This year’s theme was Great Gatsby. Anyone that knows us, knows vintage photos is how we met and we really enjoy doing them. We got a chance to do some shoots while there.

Roberto and Cris Duncan gave us some great nuggets of information we can’t wait to use at our next weddings.  Thanks to Sigma for loaning me their 8-16mm Super Wide Angle lens for the Infrared photo shot on our IR converted Nikon D70.  This was shot at 8mm.  Love the way the trees frame the Hotel Galvez.  Sigma was the big sponsor at LRSH and had lenses there to use in photos.

This post is a little delayed, but as we always say – better late than never! The 2014 Antique and Amusement Photography Association Convention was held in Texas this year at the beautiful Tremont House in Galveston. This year we entered 8 photos and received 7 ribbons including an award for technical excellence. Our steampunk photo of Dianna won the technical excellence ribbon.

Last year during our consult with Bri about her wedding she mentioned the engagement photo they wanted to do for their save the dates. Her fiancée Jonathon was in the Navy and they wanted to recreate the famous Alfred Eisenstaedt photo of the sailor kissing the nurse on VE day. We were happy to oblige since we knew the photo so well. Here is our homage to it. It won the 1st blue ribbon for Best Portrait of Two Persons.

We love pinup. Here is our vintage 1950s garage calendar of Hannah that won 1st place in the Best Digital Border Poster. My Grandfather Marvin Sr. owned a Gulf gas station in the 50’s. June 1958 does correspond to June 2014.

We also love steampunk. We had three award winning steampunk photos this year. Here in Jennifer in our 1st place image in the Best Chromakey Portrait category. This is all TEPS chromakey software and has no Photoshop used in it. The light bulb was actually hanging from the hair light and is not part of the background photo.

Our final 1st place ribbon was for mine and Tanya’s 2013 Christmas card for Best Holiday Greeting Card category. This year we decided on a 50’s couple theme. Tanya showed me in the second photo that was on the back of the card what she thought of serving me pie.
